Cohen & Buckmann Elevates New Partners: Irene Bassock and Brett Good

By Sandra Cohen ·

Cohen & Buckmann P.C. has promoted attorneys Irene Bassock and Brett Good to partner, recognizing their outstanding contributions to the firm’s clients and continued leadership in employment law and executive compensation.

“Brett and Irene have helped shape some of the most consequential decisions our clients face, including career-defining transitions and complex, high-stakes transactions,” co-founder and managing partner Sandra Cohen said. “They’ve earned this step by consistently delivering high-caliber counsel, and we’re excited to see the impact they’ll make as partners.”

In connection with her promotion, Irene has been named director of Cohen & Buckmann’s Employment Law Practice. She offers each client the benefit of her skill and tact, based on many years of experience counseling employers on complex employment law matters, including guiding internal investigations, negotiating complex executive-level employment arrangements and managing workforce transitions. She regularly advises on the employment aspects of corporate transactions, such as acquisitions, divestitures and outsourcing, and draws on her extensive in-house background to navigate risk for both employers and employees. Irene also helps employers respond to workplace misconduct and navigate nuanced legal risks for both employers and executives.

“Every workplace challenge is different, and my goal has always been to provide tailored, straightforward counsel that respects both the law and the complex business realities our clients face,” Bassock said. “I’m honored to take on this new leadership role and continue supporting clients through difficult transitions and evolving priorities.”

Brett has been named director of Cohen & Buckmann’s Equity and Incentive Plan Practice in connection with his promotion. He is fluent in the fast-paced, equity-first language of startups, venture capital and private equity. Brett advises executives, founders, employers and their law firms on equity and executive compensation matters. His practice often focuses on the West Coast and technology sectors, spanning equity incentive design, including performance-based awards, employment matters, tax planning for Section 409A and 280G, and compensation issues in M&A, financings and initial public offerings (IPOs). His career background includes advising venture capital and private equity funds and employers on the tech ecosystem of equity plans, which gives Brett an intricate understanding of the fast-paced, innovation-driven environments where many of these high-stakes decisions take shape.

“I’m grateful to work alongside a team that understands the nuances and pressure points where business, tax and personal priorities collide,” Good said. “Our role is to bring clarity to complex compensation decisions, especially when the outcome can have major implications for our clients’ futures. I look forward to helping our clients make informed, strategic decisions.”
