From the Family Lemonade Stand to the Inc. 5000 List: Sandra Cohen and Sister Deb Singer Recognized at National Entrepreneurs’ Gala

By Sandra Cohen ·

Entrepreneurship runs in the family for Sandra Wieder Cohen and her sister, Deb Wieder Singer. Their first lesson in business came during childhood, when their father insisted that their family lemonade stand account for the cost of the lemonade, cups and even the use of the family property. Decades later, their business ambitions have grown well beyond the family front yard.

Sandra and Deb traveled to Dallas on Oct. 16 for the 2026 Inc. 5000 Conference and Gala, where both of their independently founded businesses were recognized among America's fastest-growing private companies.

Sandra is co-founder and managing partner of Cohen & Buckmann, while Deb is the founder of Experts in Medicine, a legal consulting firm in the medical expert witness field.

Although their professional journeys have taken different paths, the sisters share an entrepreneurial foundation built on independence, sound judgment and a commitment to doing what they know best. Neither company relied on outside investors to achieve the remarkable growth, and both have built successful businesses in fields where professional credibility, trusted relationships and the quality of the work matter profoundly.

For Cohen & Buckmann, this recognition holds particular significance as the firm celebrates its 10th anniversary.

The Value of Building with Purpose

For businesses built on professional knowledge and judgment, growth brings opportunities as well as challenges. As a company expands, maintaining the quality of work and trusted relationships that built its reputation becomes increasingly important.

Sandra and Deb understand this from experience. Both sisters have built businesses in fields where clients rely on informed judgment, professional credibility and trust. Along the way, they've learned that sustainable growth requires investing in talented people, knowing when to delegate and building organizations that can thrive beyond their founders.

And as for that family lemonade stand? Their father reports that, after the girls paid for the cups, lemonade and supplies, he was also their biggest customer for lemonade sales, teaching them their first valuable business lesson: the difference between revenue and profit and the importance of great customer service.

That philosophy has also guided Cohen & Buckmann's growth over the past decade. When Sandra Cohen and Carol Buckmann founded the firm in 2016, they shared a clear vision: to provide the sophistication and technical depth of a major law firm within a focused, responsive boutique legal practice.

From the beginning, the firm chose to concentrate on executive compensation, employee benefits and ERISA law, where legal complexity intersects with business strategy and consequential financial decisions. Whether advising on executive compensation arrangements, equity incentives, employee benefits, retirement plans or fiduciary responsibilities, the firm’s objective has remained consistent: to deliver sophisticated, practical counsel grounded in the needs of those it serves.

That commitment has shaped the firm's professional relationships, strengthened its practice and guided its growth. Cohen & Buckmann ranked No. 2,809 on the 2026 Inc. 5000 list, with 112% revenue growth over three years and Experts in Medicine ranked No. 548 with 635% revenue growth over three years.

Yet the significance of this recognition extends beyond the numbers. The firm's growth has not required it to become something different. Instead, it has reinforced the value of what its founders set out to build.

This milestone would not have been possible without the trust and support of our clients, colleagues and professional partners, or the talent and dedication of our attorneys and team. We are grateful to everyone who has been part of our journey and look forward to what the next decade brings.
